Written by Tim Stanley – NEW FLIGHTS FROM JERSEY OPEN UP ACCESS TO FRENCH ALPS PROPERTY

Date Communiqué de Presse : 7 décembre 2007

The new Blue Islands flights from Jersey to Geneva are good news for Channel Islanders who plan to get some skiing in this season.

The three-times-a-week 90 minute flights open up easy access to a wide range of popular ski resorts in which new self-catering residences de tourisme, built and managed by the Chamonix -based MGM Group, offer spacious high quality holiday accommodation as well as investment opportunities. Many are already open for business; others are planned or under construction.

Within a one-hour drive from Geneva Airport are a number of the resorts and villages in which MGM developments for leaseback and outright purchase are located. They include Samoëns, Les Carroz, Les Houches and Le Chinaillon. Others are in Chamonix and around Lake Annecy.

Add 30 minutes to the journey time and other new properties in Les Saisies, Bisanne and Crest Voland-Cohennoz are within easy reach.

In its residences de tourisme, MGM sells leaseback apartments ranging in size from one-bedroom to four-bedrooms within traditionally-styled chalet buildings with spacious, modern interiors.
Also available are apartments in small developments available for outright purchase. Prices, which depend on size and location, start at around euros140,000.

Increasingly MGM’s developments are replacing the unattractive accommodation blocks built by other developers in popular purpose-built ski resorts in the French Alps in the 1960s.

“Our new schemes are designed to blend in beautifully in more traditional Alpine villages,” explains MGM’s UK sales manager, Nathalie Turchet.

Finished in traditional local materials, like stone and timber, the properties are built to exceptionally high standards with fully-fitted kitchens and bathrooms, fitted wardrobes in bedrooms, and pine finishes with tiled and parquet floors.

Most of the residences have four-star facilities which include an indoor pool, fitness suite, gym, sauna, jacuzzi and steam rooms, as well as a beauty centre with a variety of massages and treatments on offer.

Unlike rival developers who rely on third parties to let the properties they build, MGM has established its own specialist management company, La Compagnie de Gestion Hoteliere (CGH), to handle maintenance, letting and management of its residences.

Many of the locations are popular for holidays all year round.

Summers in the French Alps frequently are warmer than many people expect – with temperatures as high as 30C in August – so, in addition to skiing and depending on location, MGM’s developments are well-placed for those who enjoy hiking, mountain biking, climbing and horse-riding, as well as paragliding, hot air ballooning, white water rafting and fishing.
